Maxime Mahe's lab develops next-generation human intestinal organoids to bridge fundamental stem cell biology with translational medicine. Based at INSERM and connected internationally through academic and clinical partnerships, including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, we engineer complex, physiologically relevant in vitro human tissues that faithfully model gastrointestinal development, disease, and regeneration. By combining human adult and pluripotent stem cell–derived organoids with tissue engineering, bioprinting, biomechanical stimulation, and mesenchymal and neural reconstitution, we create scalable, functional intestinal tissues that recapitulate gut–brain interactions, vascular integration, and regenerative capacity. Our long-term goal is twofold: to deliver powerful organoid-based platforms for disease modeling and drug discovery, and to advance bioengineered intestinal tissues toward patient-specific therapies for severe gastrointestinal disorders.
